Jan Pentreath was brought up in West Penwith, and despite a wide-ranging academic and governmental advisory career, has maintained a significant interest in things related to Cornwall and its coast, its wildlife and the environment. One of his enthusiasms lies in the collection and restoration of historic photographs and postcards of Cornish life, and relating them to the social history of the times, including comparison with the Newlyn and St Ives artistic communities.

Two or three of us were privileged to hear a recent talk of his, and felt strongly that we would like to invite him to entertain the club. This promises to be a fascinating talk, mixing photography, local history, art, and anecdote; in view of this should members wish to bring guests they would be very welcome.
