Andy Hughes has published and presented internationally on coastal photography and on the effects of waste, particularly on the marine environment. Living in St Ives and a practising surfer, he is very involved locally in Surfers against Sewage, but has also travelled as far as Alaska as artist in residence with project teams exploring the effects of plastic waste, and has worked with NGOs, universities, galleries, and in collaboration with other artists. Not just a theorist, he has the very significant distinction of being the first artist in residence at Tate St Ives.
