On Thursday, 14th March, members of our club were kindly invited to attend a critique evening with the Helston Photographic Club. 15 prints and 15 digital photographs were submitted by the group for appraisal along with the same from the hosts. Eight St Agnes members shared transport and made their way to Helston to be met with a wonderfully warm welcome by the Helston group.
The hall was full and the projector was set up to view the submissions, a high standard of photographs were viewed and kind, yet constructive critiques followed , along with a lot of humour. Some interesting tips and ideas were shared and Nikki seemed to inspire both groups into purchasing crystal balls following her fantastic take on Seaton lighthouse!
We were then treated to a generous spread of refreshments when we were able to chat to one another and compare notes. Like us, they have a raffle, unlike us they have MANY draws, so quite a few members came away with prizes!
Following the break we viewed the prints; Helston compete and their size of photos and mounts reflected this, there were some really beautiful shots but St Agnes held their own. The meeting closed with thanks from Helston to us for sharing their evening and Claudia thanked them for their great hospitality. It was a really most enjoyable evening, we learnt some new things, we were inspired and came away wanting to return the invitation in the future. This was the first time in a long time that we had shared an evening like this with another club and it proved to be fruitful and popular.
