Mark Whittaker of the Screech Owl Sanctuary was due to give us a presentation on wildlife photography, but due to a last minute illness he could not make it. Fortunately Nikki had prepared an interesting and varied selection of her photos for us to comment on, and discussions followed on the merits of HDR techniques, letter-box cropping, etc.
After tea and biscuits Claudia resumed with photos submitted to the Western Counties Photographic Federation annual competition, showing a wide variety of techniques and subjects. Some of the submissions were very adventurous abstract subjects; there were – in the view of some – over processed shots, but overall a wide range of subjects and techniques were shown.
In all, there were two stimulating presentations, revealing the benefits of good composition and the results of using techniques to modify photos, sometimes perhaps to no good effect.
