08/04/14 Late substitute: George Collings

There was a good turnout on April 8th for our monthly meeting, where we also welcomed some new members to the club.

Unfortunately Martin Wonnacott of Cornwall Cameras had to cancel at the last minute, so Geoff heroically searched his archives and found a wonderful speaker in George Collings who delivered a fascinating and inspirational talk on his work that he has produced since 1993 when he became serious about photography.

Assisted by his son Richard, George showed us some stunning images of flowers, digital art and landscapes, many of his subjects sourced from his own back yard! The skills he has in the digital ‘darkroom’ was demonstrated in many of his images and are incredible.

In 2013 George submitted a panel of abstract images of landscapes to the Royal Photographic Society and gained an Associate of distinction. He discussed how he has found different framing helps an image and shared a wealth of knowledge which can only be acquired from someone who is dedicated and passionate about his work. A thoroughly enjoyable presentation and worth a look at online at George Collings Photography should you want to refresh your memory or be further inspired.

Perranporth: Space to breathe by Alan Parker - clearly Alan was inspired by George's talk!

Spring was this quarter’s theme for the club and several members brought in images. These were viewed and discussed amicably, although Spring is late this year the images still managed to catch its magic!
